Let Me Be
These echoes, I don’t want to hear
These lacerations, anymore I can’t acquiesce.
Unshackle, Uniron me.
Let me, Let me be.
Please.
Exfoliate the plasters, Unmute me.
You have turned me deaf.
My rumblings, I fail to recognize.
This is far too tight.
Let me breathe, Let me see.
Can’t comprehend a thing,
This Black Canvas and black ink.
You have barricaded my shadows even,
Have none to see me bleed.
The torture you inflict
I don’t even weep.
Just let me,
Let me be.
I won’t let your beast feast
Try you may.
I’ll run, canter away.
I’ll be what I want to be
I’ll be me.
I’ll unchain the cables
That confound, confine and clot
The veins which gushed with
Liberty, eccentricity and identity;
That denude, depredate, desecrate my soul
The damage’s done
I’ll still run
I want to be, what I have never been.
Want to see, want to be.
Want to scream, my own preceptor be.
Want to smell, the scent of selfhood .
Want to savor, the sweetness of my sweat.
Want to feel, what it is to be me.
Let me be, what I want to be
For I am now debilitated and sick.
I’ll run, I’ll run anyway.
I’ll be, what I want to be.
I’ll be me
And Master,
My pale shadows
Will be mocking thee.

I am thinking of taking a print-out of this post and showing it to SDG (your ex-English teacher).
Trust me she is definitely going to think, “Ah ! He was my student…I am proud of him…”
